There were signs that noted “that the show must go on” and it was just reported that the Wortham will be back in use for the 2018-19 season. The ominous black curtains and temporary seating brought back memories of that night, as did the makeshift lounges and adjacent areas inside the Houston convention center.
A fully-adapted disabled toilet is available in the Stalls.The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey forced the Houston Grand Opera out of its regular space in the Wortham Theater Center and into a temporary one, dubbed HGO Resilience Theater inside the cavernous George Brown Convention Center in downtown.Įxperiencing a performance in such an unusual setting wasn’t a unique experience for me after seeing a production of “Tannhauser” inside a similar space in Cologne last fall with an immense hall inside a convention center as the backdrop. Barsīars are available in the main foyer and in the Stalls. Legroom is generally good throughout the Stalls. Wheelchair spaces are available at the ends of rows G, H, M, N and R. Optimum views are in the centre of the Stalls, as they are not too close to the stage and are unaffected by the Dress Circle overhang. Rows A-C sit below the stage level, which can miss performers’ feet and some set, depending on the production. Row L features two support pillars, which restrict the views of seats directly behind. Rows are wide and face the stage head-on, with the longest in the centre in rows H-K, which causes seats at the very ends of rows to have a partially restricted view.
There is a Box either side of the house, toward the front of the seating, which give side-angled views of the stage. The Stalls is one large block of seating, with vertical aisles that run either side.
